Rear marker plates, rule changes you need to know.

In 2017 a review of the AS4001 Rear Marker Plates was completed. As a result it was found that these plates were not as durable and the NHVR decided they were to be replaced/fazed out.

Initially they put a deadline date that these plates had to be replaced by 31/12/2020 however they have decided this may not be feasible for transport operators and have allowed the plates to be upgraded when they are required to be replaced.

If you currently have the AS4001 Rear Marker Plates displayed on any fleet vehicles/trailers, you can continue to use these plates however when they are required to be replaced you must replace them with the approved Rear Marker Plates.

The approved plates are;

CLASS 400

Class 400 material that complies with AS/NZS1906.1

CLASS 1A

Class 1A material that complies with AS/NZS1906.2

UNECE R70

Material that complies with the relevant requirements of UNECE Regulation 70.
